As president and a founding principal of CWS Architects, Ben has 30 year of extensive experience in the commercial, multifamily, senior housing, recreation and retail design industry. The focus of his professional has been to identify and integrate unique community-building programming into every project. “Developments that embrace community needs become a vital part of the community”, says Ben. In addition to community building, integrating sustainability and preservation practices into all projects, both traditional and contemporary in design are essential to his philosophy. Over the years his projects have received substantial recognition and many state and national awards, including two Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards, five Maine Historic Preservation, J. Timothy Anderson Award for Best Historic Rehabilitation Project Involving New Construction, Affordable Housing Finance Magazine's Readers' Choice Awards, Preservation Action and the National Trust Community Investment Corporation one of "Preservation's Best of 2013", five Maine State Preservation Honor Awards, three LEED Platinum certifications and has recently completed the largest large-scaled cold-climate multifamily Passive House development in the United States which won both the PHIUS (Passive House Institute US) “Affordable” and “Multifamily” awards at the 2016 PHIUS national conference.
