As part of a Housing First initiative, this 30-unit single room occupancy (SRO) apartment building provides stable, permanent housing for individuals transitioning out of homelessness in Portland’s community.
The design prioritizes dignity, stability, and long-term support. Carefully planned common spaces play a critical role in helping residents transition from homelessness to independent living, offering environments that encourage comfort, safety, and positive social interaction. Interior spaces were thoughtfully shaped to respond to the needs of individuals who may be experiencing trauma or mental health challenges, creating a calm and supportive setting for daily life.
Situated on a previously undeveloped parcel at the head of Capisic Stream, the project also strengthens its environmental context. Sustainable site strategies include advanced water quality and sediment retention systems integrated beneath the parking area, helping protect the surrounding watershed. Additional green building features further reinforce the project’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Together, these elements create a housing environment that supports both personal stability and ecological stewardship.
