Housing

Huston Commons

Portland, Maine

A Housing First Initiative, this apartment building consists of 30 single resident occupancy (SRO) units. The project provides a stable housing environment for former members of Portland’s homeless community. As such the facility’s common spaces were carefully planned to transition residents from homelessness to permanent living. Interior spaces were designed to support the social comfort needs of individuals experiencing traumatic mental health issues in need of a stabilizing environment.

Located on a parcel of land that was previously undeveloped, the building is situated at the head of the Capisic Stream. The project includes advanced water quality retention and sediment retention systems under the parking lot. Huston Commons was designed with sustainability in mind and features many advanced green building features.
