A pioneering memory care day center that combines therapeutic support with a warm, home-like environment designed to foster dignity, comfort, and social connection.

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging Sam L. Cohen Adult Day Center is a first-of-its-kind facility in Maine, designed to provide a supportive, home-like environment for individuals living with memory impairments.

This day-home was carefully planned around a person-centered senior care model that encourages comfort, dignity, and meaningful social interaction. Designed to support up to 50 members daily, the center provides therapeutic and cognitive programming tailored to both participants and their caregivers, creating a welcoming setting that promotes overall health and well-being.

Activity spaces are thoughtfully distributed throughout the building to support engagement, movement, and daily routines. The facility includes a variety of interactive indoor and outdoor environments, including walking paths, craft areas, social gathering spaces, a member kitchen, lounge, and living room. Each space was intentionally designed to feel familiar and residential rather than institutional, helping members feel comfortable, connected, and at ease.

Together, these elements create a compassionate and highly supportive environment that enhances quality of life for seniors and their families.
