A senior housing community that combines sustainability, accessibility, and resident-focused amenities to meet critical housing needs in central Maine.
This three-story, 35,576-square-foot senior housing community was developed to address the growing demand for affordable housing options for older adults in central Maine. The project was made possible through a partnership between the owner, MaineHousing, and the Augusta Housing Authority.
The building provides 42 thoughtfully designed one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with a variety of shared amenities that support an active and connected lifestyle. Residents enjoy access to a community room, lounge, library, laundry facilities, and inviting common areas that encourage social interaction and engagement.
Sustainability was a key driver throughout the design process. The building features a highly insulated envelope—including slab insulation—a whole-building energy recovery ventilation (ERV) system, community gardens, bicycle storage, EV-ready parking spaces, and walking trails that promote healthy living and environmental stewardship. Building ownership continues to explore additional renewable energy opportunities, including the potential for an off-site solar array.
The community's impact was evident immediately upon opening, with the building reaching 95% occupancy within just three weeks of its grand opening. The strong demand and successful outcome have prompted discussions for a similar senior housing development in Freeport, further expanding access to quality housing for Maine's aging population.
