This project transformed an existing garage into a compact, accessible tiny home that provides emergency transitional housing for individuals in need.

This project involved the adaptive reuse of an existing two-story, 250 SF garage into a two-bedroom, accessible tiny house designed for an emergency shelter. Funded by Maine Housing Authority, the conversion provides transitional housing for a particularly vulnerable population. This renovation maintained the original building footprint while transforming the interior into a high-efficiency residential unit, which includes a living area with kitchenette, a fully accessible bathroom, and 2 small bedrooms. Located within a Historic District, the project underwent a rigorous review by the Historical Preservation Commission. The final design successfully preserved the neighborhood's architectural character while meeting modern building codes.

By creatively reusing an existing structure, the project demonstrates how small-scale adaptive redevelopment can provide meaningful housing solutions while respecting the historic fabric of the community.
