Warren Waste Water Treatment Facility

LOCATION

Warren, Rhode Island

A comprehensive wastewater facility modernization that combines critical infrastructure upgrades with context-sensitive architectural improvements across an active waterfront campus.

Project scope included repairs and finish upgrades to the existing administration building, along with similar improvements to several supporting outbuildings. Common upgrades throughout the site included brick masonry restoration, door and window replacement, new roofing systems, and updated exterior finishes, extending the life and performance of the facility’s aging structures.

In addition to the renovation work, two new operational buildings—a sludge handling facility and a screenings building—were introduced to support the plant’s evolving treatment processes. Both structures were carefully designed to respond to the existing architectural character of the campus and minimize visual impact within the surrounding waterfront neighborhood.

The sludge handling building incorporates a red brick veneer that complements other prominent buildings on site, while the screenings building utilizes articulated precast concrete panels that reflect the more utilitarian nature of the facility’s industrial structures. This thoughtful approach balanced operational demands with contextual sensitivity, creating a cohesive and durable campus environment.
